Sketchy Magee Dump

Oh, hey. Haven't seen you in a while. Welcome back for another Sketchy Magee sketchbook sketch dump. I've been a bit busy this year... which is a good thing! Since graduating college it generally takes me a little over a year on average to fill up my regular sketchbooks. This one took a little over seven months. I still don't draw everyday, like I should, but I've been doing a lot better and feel like I've been getting a lot better. So below are some pictures I took from my sketchbook to show off some of the work I've been doing. Enjoy!

These are some character sketches from "Air Aunties" the short comic I illustrated for the Ladies Night Anthology "Sisters".

Here are a couple other sketches from various projects I worked on over the past year.

I spent a lot of time at the beach this summer, so there were quite a few beach sketches.

I've been a fan of r/RedditGetsDrawn for a while. Whenever I don't know what to draw or need to do some warm up sketches I generally turn to that subreddit. Below are some of those sketches. Some of which I posted, some I did not. These are all drawings of user submitted photos.

Doodled quite a few of my favorite characters.

And of course here are few other miscellaneous sketches that I enjoy.

Not sure what is going on here...

ughhh... You're gonna have to ask John about this.

C'mon now, you know I wasn't gonna leave you hanging without some embarrassing self portraits.

Me marveling at the magnificence of my boobs in this bridesmaid's dress.

And one of my favorites from the Rogers Park Wine Stroll.

Wow. Wasn't that great. We all had fun today. Wait, what's that? You wanna know how you can have a little piece of Andrea art. Well, you're in luck. I'm getting ready to send out this year's holiday card and you can have one for free! That's right, just private message me your address on Facebook and you will be added to the Zidek Family holiday card list. This is my ninth year designing holiday cards to send out to friends and family and now is as good of a time as ever to add your name to the list!

What's that? You wanna know how you can get a hold of one of my comics. You're in luck with that as well, because I have BONUS NEWS!!!

B-B-B-BONUS!
This year I tabled at two conventions, got comics published in two anthologies and finished my second issue of No Pants Revolution "No Pants 2: The Revolution Continues". So how am I gonna ruin that perfect even number of two? I'm tabling at one more convention before the year is out. Say what? Come see me on December 16th at Pocket Con at the Chicago Cultural Center! I'll be selling copies of "Mito and Me", "No Pants Revolution" 1 and 2, as well as the Ladies Night Anthology "Sisters" and the Northside Comic Artists anthology "Misadventure" which feature comics drawn by me. I will also be selling stickers and original artwork. So if you're in the Chicago area, come check me out. This event is family friendly and will also feature goodie bags and events that are child friendly. Click on image for more information.

Au Revoir Sketchy Magee and Hello Chicago Zine Fest!

Earlier this week I finished up another sketchbook. I feel like I definitely grew a lot in this book. There was lots of fun stuff and a lot of comics ideas and thumbnails that I'm working on putting together for "No Pants Revolution Part 2". I didn't post any of my comics stuff but below you can see some of the other fun stuff I sketched.

Lots of ladies (surprisingly clothed)

A ton of embarrassing self portraits

Several drawings of people (mostly portraits) courtesy of r/redditgetsdrawn

So much fan art

(Wonder Woman)

(Marceline)

(Amethyst, Ariel, Batgirl)

And some other fun stuff like this naked lady popping out of the water

This weird lady

And slightly less embarrassing self portaits.

B-b-b-b-BONUS!

So, next month (May 6th) I will be tabling at Chicago Zine Fest. I'm finishing up the last bits of "No Pants Revolution Part 2" and will have that for sale along with some other fun stuff. So come fuck with me!

Holiday Card and stuff

Happy New Year! I know I shouldn't get excited about a new year. It's just another day and the date doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, however I just have a good feeling about this year. I haven't felt this optimistic about anything in a long time, so I suppose that's why I'm clinging to it so dearly. Anyways, 2014, we'll see.

First off, did you notice the new banner? ↑↑↑

I finally get to retire this old thing. ↓↓↓ (I had to dig deep to find this original file).

I also just got new business cards with the same image (as my new header). So I finally get to retire these old bad boys with their old, ridiculously long website url.

So, new year, new stuff. So, here's some old stuff I did last year! The holidays are over and most everybody who was gonna get a holiday card got their holiday card. So here's a little behind the scenes of how it was created. Previous year's cards: 2012 2011 (apparently I've never posted my ones from before before 2011. It's alright my mom has all of them hanging up in her living room to see year round).

A very rough sketch of my idea.

A process shot of me inking the final sketch (the tea is a very important part of the process).

Inked, yay!

Colored the snowflake.

More coloring in process.

The final inked image.

Final. I added some Holiday (Photoshop) magic!

So yeah. I can't think of a clever transition for this. Here are some more RedditGetsDrawn pics I did. I've decided this time to just link to the original forums instead of posting the actual pictures on my blog. So if you click on the descriptions it will link you to the original thread.

So this guy asked to be drawn as the artists favorite Batman villian. So, of course, I chose everyone's favorite... Man-Bat!

This person wanted someone to draw this old image of their grandma from when she was young. It was a cool photo and reminded me of those old pin up models.

This was just a cool photo of a tatted up chick in all her armpit hair glory.

This person wanted their sister to be drawn Disney style. I didn't really get the Disney style, but just felt like drawing it anyway. In the photo she's wearing a black lacy shirt that I was not thrilled about drawing, so I quickly found something of my own that was black and lacy to scan and use for the shirt texture. Good times.

So, it's a new year. I'll be posting some more stuff real soon. Comics stuff! I know it's been a while since I've posted any comics. I'll be compiling a lot of my old comics and drawing some new comics, since I've decided to register as an exhibitor for MoCCA Fest this year! That's exciting news. So, there's some stuff to look forward to. Alright, I think I'm done typing now.
