Saying Goodbye To Another Sketchy Magee
Honestly surprised it took less than a year to fill her up. Or maybe I'm not that surprised. Here's what I've been up to over the past 8-9 months.
Working on my comic Mito and Me.
Watching a ton of Justice League and Justice League Unlimited and sketching Wonder Woman.
Sketching in the park.
Sketching ladies...
...ladies with tea...
...pants-less ladies...
and lady faces.
And, of course, no sketchbook would be complete without naked ladies.
I drew some fellas too.
Playing with markers.
And watching the cancelled, now no longer cancelled Community. This was inspired by a quote by Chang, although, I'm pretty sure I wrote the quote down wrong.
Bonus!
While sketching at the park this older drunk man sat down on the bench next to me to watch me draw. He said that he used to draw when he was younger and asked if he could sketch in my book. So, reluctantly, I let him. He said the picture was of me sailing in a boat with the eyes of God peaking over the horizon watching me. His name is Williem. He said when he was a teenager he sent his art portfolio to some schools in Europe, but never heard anything back. He told me though, that maybe, someone someday might look though my sketchbook and recognize his work in it. So that was fun!
Art by Williem, the dude in the park.
Double Bonus!!
So the printer at work was acting up and taking a long time to print. So in between printing files I did some sketching in the margins of my paperwork.
Work scribblings.

Sailor Saturn2169
Fun Fact: My username, Saturn2169, which was created when I was 13, was named after Sailor Saturn. Not sure why this hasn't happened yet, but inspired by @sketch_dailies, I decided to illustrate Sailor Saturn2169. Somehow clumsier than Usagi, here's Sailor Saturn2169 with toilet paper stuck to her boot. Enjoy!

There's a Storm Coming
Another @Sketch_Dailies post. Today's theme was "Storm" in honor of XMen Days of Future Past opening in theaters tonight. I had a lot of fun drawing her. I sort of mixed up her styles a bit, hopefully no one minds. Anyways enjoy!
Original pencil drawing.
Inked with marker (Copic and Microns).
Scanned and colored and finished in Photoshop.

Harlan Quinn
I recently started following @Sketch_Dailies on twitter. They post daily inspirations for artists. Artists do a piece based off their theme and then post it to twitter with the #sketch_dailies for all to see. Anyways, I decided to give it a whirl. Here's my first piece for the #Harlequin. Quite a few people did renderings of Harley Quinn, I decided to do a male version. I call him Harlan Quinn. Enjoy!
If you'd like to see images of all the tea and booze I imbibe, feel free to follow me on twitter @Saturn2169.

Post MoCCA
So MoCCA Fest has come and gone. It was my first time tabling and I got to share it with one of my best friends, Garibaldi. We didn't sell a lot, but we had an awesome weekend. We met a lot of people and learned a lot. This experience will allow me to go into next year better and stronger. I'm already excited. Anyways, here's a quick recap of the weekend.
Friday night we pre gamed it at Drink and Draw Like a Lady.
Needless to say, we drank and we drew.
After about two hours of that we were starting to feel a little overwhelmed by the amount of ladies, the size of the venue and the lack of ventilation. So, we moseyed on over to Jack Dempsey's Pub for the NYC Comics Jam and drew some more.
Warning: Penis (too late)
Got to bed in time to get some rest before the big show!
Table "Pearson vs Garibaldi"
So, the fact of the matter is that neither of us were %100 happy with how our books turned out; it sucks but that's how it is. I didn't sell as much as I would have liked, but I'd be lying if I said I did it for the money. We had a good time. I got to meet tons of people and share experiences and learned so much. And hopefully I got a couple more people to take a look at my work (that'd be nice).
Here's our setup. I'm pretty sure I sold more "Batgirl" stickers than anything else.
Probably my favorite part of MoCCA is getting the chance to discover new artists I like and read a lot of new cool comics.
Here's my haul. Some books I bought and other I traded.
I also love collecting business cards and free postcards. I go to all the websites and blogs and look for new artists to follow. Also, the ones with really cool designs I hang up on my wall.
All in all it was an awesome weekend.
P.S. I think I forgot to mention that I have a twitter account now. I started twittering a few weeks ago, so, if you want to follow me I'm @Saturn2169.
Bonus!
Here's my favorite page from my kid's comic Mito and Me!

Getting Ready For My First Comic Convention: MoCCA Fest 2014
MoCCA Fest 2014 starts tomorrow and it will be an historic event as it will be the first ever comic convention that I table in. Okay, it's not as great as all that, but I am super excited. It will be the first time I am able to show off all my comics art to a large audience. I've got two books I put together just for MoCCA. The first is a "kid's" comic called Mito and Me about a young panda whose imaginary friend teaches him about the amazingness that is comic books. The second is No Pants Revolution a collection of journal comics mostly from 2012 when I took a stab at drawing daily journal comics.
Here they are in all their glory!
Cover of Mito and Me #1
Mito and Me was an idea I came up with in December. It originally started out as a story about a grown woman whose only friend was an imaginary stuffed panda. And as deliciously sad as that all sounds, I decided the story might be a little funnier and ultimately more interesting if I made it about a nerdy boy panda that has a snarky grown woman as an imaginary friend. Time will tell I suppose.
Behind the scenes look at the inking of one of the pages inspired by Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns.
Materials used:
300 series Strathmore bristol board with smooth surface
Carmine red Col-Erase pencil and eraser for the original art
Windsor and Newton black ink with the spider on the front, trusty nib for the lines, size one synthetic brush to fill in the blacks, and a handful of microns for lettering and small details.
Cover of No Pants Revolution
You may have noticed that the cover for No Pants Revolution is extremely similar to this illustration I did back in 2012. I felt like this image and phrase really captured the essence of my book as well as my whole state of mind in 2012, so I did a quick redesign for the cover.
I had over six months of daily journal comics to sift through and needless to say not everything made it through into the book. Below are a few gems that ended up on the cutting room floor.
This one about my obsession with blueberries (wonder how that didn't make it).
Any comic where I dance (that shit's just embarrassing).
I actually kinda like this one.
There's only so many drunk comics I can add before it starts to look like I have a problem.
So tomorrow and Sunday, if you're in NYC come see me and Garibaldi at table E18!
