#Inktober2016

So, I decided to participate in #inktober this year. It felt great to continue drawing everyday however, many of these ended up being pretty rushed. I only really carved out about 30-40 minutes to come up with an idea, sketch it out and ink it. None of these are really polished or thought out illustrations, but I guess that's okay. I still had fun doing it. I also want to thank John for his help coming up with many of these ideas as I sat there frustrated for not being able to decide on what to draw. Oh, you may notice that October 1st is missing. I did draw it and post it on twitter but, I drew it in a sketchbook that didn't take to the ink very well and the drawing ended up pretty fuzzy. Anyway, I just didn't want to post that one, so if you really want to see it, check out my twitter @saturn2169. Without further ado...

I was just a wee bit drunk when I did this one of me posing in front of a discarded mattress.

I actually changed the color of this one on twitter to blue, because I didn't mean for this to look like blood on his face.

This was one of John's prompts: Eric Andre hugging a unicorn.

*Forgot to give Ericka Medina credit for the idea for this one. Cheese plate inspired drawing.

A quick David S Pumpkins from Saturday Night Live.

John came up with the idea to do a series of spooky animals.
Spooky Giraffe.

Frankenstein's Hippo.

Mummy Beaver.

Zombie Penguin.

Kraken Bear.

Final image of the month was my Halloween drawing. A self portrait of me eating airheads and playing Pokemon Go wearing my panda hat.

Hope you enjoyed these. I don't have any specific daily drawing plans for November. However, I do have my holiday card coming up. Woo, that's right! And as you may know I live in Chicago now, so if need my new address or if you have changed addresses message me on Facebook or email me. Ok, that's it.

30 Days of Drawing on Post-its

For the month of September I joined some friends on twitter in the #stickathon challenge to draw on a post-it note every day. They are mostly rushed scribbles, but it was a good exercise in drawing everyday and getting me prepared for #inktober, which I will talk about in a later post. Below are scans of a couple of my favorites.

Day 2: One of the last really nice days of summer.

Day 3: Late night gyro indulgence.

Day 8: Animal as a weapon as prompted by my husband.

Day 12: Too much hair.

Day 16: Inspired by my niece's Shopkins themed birthday party.

Day 18: Getting crunk!

Day 22: Koffing, John's favorite pokemon.

I'm currently participating in #inktober. You can check out my twitter @saturn2169 for daily updates on that or just wait 'til I do a blog post about it a month from now. Either way.

To Be Fair, The Last Time I Moved Across The Country I Didn't Post For A Year

Hello! So, for those of you who didn't know, I moved back to Chicago! What?! That's right. After close to five years in NYC, I'm back home in Chicago. I'm not gonna lie, I already miss NY, but it's good to be back and close to family. Anyway, for those of you on my holiday card mailing list you should have received a postcard with my and John's new address. If I somehow missed you or you are not on the mailing list and would like to be, shoot me a message on Facebook with your address and I'll send one your way. Now that that is out of the way here are some process pictures along with the final card design (sans address for obvious reasons).

Here are some of the original rough sketches from my sketchbook. Pretty sure I drew these while I was on the train in NYC.

Back in Chicago I got to work on the final drawing.

Inked.

Process shot. Gotta have some tea.

Sneak Preview shot for twitter (@Saturn2169)

All colored with inks and scanned in.

Final! Background and some cleanup done in Photosherp.

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. I do have some stuff I'm working on now, so I should have some more fun stuff to post soon.

Holiday Card 2015

The holiday season is over. I guess it has been for a few weeks. But by now even the really lazy people should have taken down decorations and all that (says the lady who has her "Happy Halloween" decorations still up on her door). Anyway, here is 2015's holiday card. I wish I was on a beach somewhere warm right now.

One of my first rough concept sketches (John in a bikini)

Rough sketch. I kind of liked the look of this one (turns out John didn't like the bikini part)

Inked

Final

Warm wishes.

Another Sketchy Magee Over and a New One Just Begun

2015 was an emotional year. There was so much new and fun and exciting and a lot of sad and frustrating and tedious. I started out the year pretty strong. I felt motivated and optimistic. Motivation slowly dwindled and obligations got in the way. There were times I wanted to put pen or pencil to paper, but I couldn't. I was too tired or sad or busy. There are places in this sketchbook where consecutive pages are weeks or even months apart. Christmas is over and New Years is over and for better or worse things are starting to go back to "normal". I forced my self to power through the last three pages of this book, that had been empty for over a month, so I could call it a day on Sketchy Magee before the New Year. It felt nice. I get anxiety when I haven't drawn in a while and the longer it is the more nervous I feel about what might happen when I finally start to scribble. Maybe I've forgotten how to draw and maybe it'll all be crap. But then I do. And it's fine. It's all still there. Right where I left it.

So here are some bits from Sketchy Magee.

Some scribbles

Some comic ideas I never finished

Lots of naked women in weird poses

Lots of women with clothes on as well

(John wanted me to include this sketch with the randomly written "Nuttiness" on top)

Lots of goofy drawings of myself

(I hope my aunt thinks I did justice to the awesome slippers she made me in this drawing)
(Also this is the sweater my Ma got me for Christmas 2014)
(Also boobies)

And also, John and pugs

A new year and a new sketchbook. Wish me luck.
